Common health problems in monsoon

Cold and cough:  Sneezing, runny nose, headache, and sore throat are few of the common symptoms which can affect any age group during monsoon.

Typhoid: One of the epidemics during monsoon due to contaminated food and water with bacteria.  In typhoid fever, the most common symptom of this disease is prolonged fever, severe pain in the abdomen with diarrhea/ constipation and headache.

Malaria and Dengue: Malaria and Dengue are other common monsoon diseases due to mosquitoes. There is fever, bouts of shivering, headache, weakness, muscle pains, etc. in Dengue, there can be a characteristic skin rash.

Hepatitis A & E: Hepatitis is another common monsoon disease due to contaminated food and water which spread through fecal-oral route.

Fungal infections: Most common during the monsoons because of constant dampness. The moisture present in the environment helps the fungi to grow and thrive, mostly in skin folds such as the groins or between the toes.

Gastroenteritis: Infection of GI tract due to bacteria or virus brings on vomiting, stomach ache, diarrhea or dysentery.  Monsoon also brings diseases like conjunctivitis, tonsillitis, earache, pneumonia, diarrhea, dysentery, vomiting.

Here are few medicines that can help you get relief in acute Cold & Cough

 Arsenic alb: It is medicine for ice creams and cold drinks. This is a medicine which will help you if you get cold and dry cough after having cold drinks or cold food like ice creams, cold drinks or any food item from refrigerator. 

Cold food is not only one which is kept in refrigerator but also food articles which are cold by nature like Curd  Dahi), Cucumber, Banana, even regular water in winter as it becomes cold. 

Rhus tox: It is the medicine for rainy season. If you get wet in rains or if you get exposed to damp wet weather but not actually got wet and if you catch cold and cough, RHUS TOX is the medicine to be thought of.

Antimonium tart: It is a Homoeopathic expectorant. It works best in acute onset of congestive cough where there is lot of mucus in the chest and it is not coming out. ANTIMONIUM TART in this case proves helpful. 

Antimonium ars: It is the medicine for congestion in chest with breathlessness. Works best if the person is having breathlessness due to accumulation of lot of mucus in chest after having cold food or drinks or change of weather. 

Hepar sulph: It is the medicine to be given when one catches cold, cough, inflamed tonsils, sore throat or fever. 

Merc sol: Fungal infections are common during the monsoons because of constant dampness and the possibility of coming in contact with dirty, non-potable water. The moisture present in the environment helps the fungi to grow and thrive, especially in skin folds such as the groins or between the toes. Here, Merc sol is a good remedy for the prevention and treatment of fungal infection. Ulcers – irregular spreading, shallow, bleeding, with cutting and proud flesh. Itching at night, moist eczema etc. 

Aloe soc: It is known to be helpful to treat amoebiasis; very common problem during the monsoons, as the parasite Entamoeba histolytica, which is responsible for it, tends to survive for longer under warm and moist conditions. It enters the body through contaminated food or water and produces diarrhoea or dysentery with blood and mucus.

China off:  It is the most important remedy during the monsoon season for malaria. Fever with chills followed by sweating is characteristic of malarial fevers. 

Eupatorium perf: Fevers accompanied by headache, body ache think of this remedy.
